1-    Devotion:

All the participants worshiped and Rev. Asif Khalid shared a devotional thought.

2-    Opening Sessions:

Rev. Jan and Brother Anton spoke in the opening session about the history and beginning of Faith2share, its work and its vision. They spoke about the vision and purpose of this consultation and they shared their hearts for Pakistan.

Here are the key points of their talk:

  • Faith2share is not an organization however it is a platform for the organizations/missions/churches to come together and get on one point/platform to talk about the discipleship, what is real discipleship and how it really look like.
  • Faith2share began a few years before with a consultation of leaders who want to see how we can implant true discipleship in a believer’s life to live like Jesus shaped lives in 7 major areas of our lives. Today we will speak about only one areas of believer’s life which is discipleship in the family.

3-    Break (Tea/Coffee)

Participants enjoyed very beautiful tea break and get to know each other and talked to each other. It was such a beautiful time and very blessed time.

4-    Character Formation of Discipleship in the Family context:

Rev. Asif Khalid and Rev. Waseem Ullah Khokhar spoke about the discipleship and the family discipleship in Pakistan.

Here are the key points they spoke about:

  • There not a specific definition of discipleship in Pakistani Church or Pakistani believers could not define what discipleship look like.
  • Our perspective of discipleship is of pupilship and studentship, which is not the Jesus’ context. He talked about fellowship and follow-ship.
  • There are no training programs or discipleship courses are available in Pakistan for Christian family discipleship. There are a few discipleship programs available prepared by a few organizations/institutes however these courses are merely Biblical teaching programs for new born believers.
  • We could not grasp the concept of Jesus’ discipleship and we have come far away from this basic concept. We need to conduct more consultations like this to initiate this wave of revival and we should keep on doing these kind of more consultations until all the Pakistani believers and churches may grasp this vision of living Jesu shaped lives.

5-    Lunch

Participants enjoyed a traditional lunch of three different kinds of dishes. It was a very wonderful time having lunch together and talking to each other.

6-    Resources for family discipleship - plenary discussion & Working groups on issues and resources for family discipleship (Split into Groups and have discussion)

All the participants have been divided into three groups and they have discussed about the Resources for family discipleship & Working groups on issues and resources for family discipleship. They have talked about the challenges, hurdles, resources, recommendations and way out for the family discipleship in Pakistan. Each group has appointed one leader to take the notes of their discussion to come forward and represent all the points they have noted; here is the summary of the points every group have discussed and presented;

Group One: Team Leader> Mr Adnan from Ambassadors of Christ International.

Group two: Team Leader> Mr Nisar Masih from Every Home for Christ International

Group Three: Team Leader> Dr Pastor Liakat Sarfaraz from Jesus Mission Ministries

Summary of the discussion:

  • At this modern age we are experiencing so many challenges who are a hindrance for a Christian family discipleship.

o   Use of social media and modern technology among young people and children in the family.

o   There are no specific family norms of a Christian living and discipleship, we are rushed and influenced with so many cultural and social impacts on our families.

o   We have relationship crises among our families of husbands and wife, children and parents, and with other family members.

o   We have short of financial resources which is also causing a challenge for family discipleship.

o   We have soci-cultural barriers.

o   We have lack of leadership. Leadership on all our areas. We do not rely on our political leadership, religious readership and social leadership etc.

o   There is a great absence of youth related activities. We do not have a certain program at the church lever and social level and political level where we could engage our young people.

o   The big barrier is that there is not platform (religious or political) where leadership is sitting together to talk about family discipleship.

o   We do not have resources/talks/programs as per the need of age. We are working among children discipleship, however we have not a single program for teenagers (13-19 age). 90% of our young people drop out of church in this age group.

  • Recommendation/ The Way out

Here is the summary of the recommendations of the leaders participated in this consultation.

o   We need to develop more training/discipleship resources and programs. LORD’S HOME has introduced Living IN Jesus (ADT) program since three years before which is a wonderful approach and it is very affective, however we need more training and resources like this program all over Pakistan. The big issue is that we do not have resources as per the age requirements. We need to handle every age separately

ü  We need resources and discipleship programs for 13-19 age group, separately for girls and boys.

ü  We need resources and discipleship programs for women. (Young girls, women, before marriage and after marriage)

ü  We need resources and discipleship programs for 20-30 age group and 30-40 age group and so on.

o   We need to conduct more consultations like this in the future. Following are the recommendations:

ü  We should conduct four days or five days of consultation with 50 to 100 people or 200 people.

ü  We should conduct consultation with only working women and house wives.

ü  We should conduct consultation separately according the different field of life. Like political leaders, church leaders, business men, youth etc.

ü  We need to conduct a series of consultations for next 5 to 10 years. After 10 years we will be able to see a great change. We cannot expect a big difference by only conducting one consultation.

o   We need to develop training program for parents only to do discipleship in their families. Let’s train parents and not only the church leaders.

o   Every leader and every family leader should hold a consultation within his church/organization and family.

o   Brother Samuel Paul (From LRI) shared his vision, how Father has spoken to him about 7 mountains. One of those mountains is family discipleship and a major mountain is Business Mountain. All the participants agreed on carrying this vision. Thank you so much.

  • Future Steps: All the participants agreed on conducting more consultations in future for 4 or 5 days at different locations of Pakistan in big cities etc. All the participants agreed to form several discipleship programs as per need discussed above.

7-    Finishing Prayer and Departure

At the end of the consultation brother Samuel Paul finished with prayer and organizing ministry team presented all the participants the flowers and souvenirs.
